Grey Fox Inn

About the Inn

Since 1878

A farmstead, then an inn,
for generations

The Grey Fox sits on seven and a half acres along Mountain Road, where Stowe’s farms once ran down to the West Branch of the Little River. People have worked this land, lived on it, and welcomed travelers to it for nearly a hundred and fifty years, and the three buildings standing on it today each carry a chapter of that story.

Now the inn runs thirty-eight rooms, suites, and condos between the village and the mountain, with the Stowe Recreation Path crossing the back lawn.

From Farm to Inn

The land remembers

The property enters the record in 1878 as the homestead of Luke J. Town, and by 1899 it was the Demerit family’s farm, photographed around 1915 with its barns facing the dirt road that became Mountain Road. By the middle of the century the farmhouse had taken its first paying guests, and it has carried a version of that welcome ever since.

For years the front rooms were known across Stowe for Dutch pancake breakfasts. Today that corner of the Main Inn belongs to G Willikers, the chef-owned kitchen that serves the inn.

Three buildings, one story

Walk the property and you walk the timeline.

The Main Inn

The farmhouse at the heart of it

The original farmhouse, grown over a century into the heart of the property: seventeen rooms and suites, a condo tucked under the eaves of the top floor, and G Willikers on the front porch. The dining room grew onto the old front carport in 2006, and the decks came with the 2022 renovation.

The Mountain View Building

Nineteen ninety-four, up the hill

Sixteen condo-style rooms and suites on the rise behind the farmhouse, with balconies, fireplaces, and the Green Mountains out the windows. The building steps into the hillside: you park at its front doors, the lawn opens out a level below, and the top-floor condos sit one flight up.

The Annex

The newest chapter

Newly renovated in 2026, the Annex building has four ground-level rooms finished like boutique apartments: wood slat walls, a reclaimed brick hearth, a full kitchen in the Deluxe Queen, and the inn’s ADA queen with a ramped, park-at-the-door entry.
